As for the weather, it was the rainiest Spring on record here and might as well be the summer too. It's raining as I write this and although the solstice was four days ago, I must confess we had the wood stove going for a short time this morning. However, aside from the overflowing bathtub in the sky, the weather has been glorious just enough to keep me satisfied. I've gone swimming in a local swimming hole (the nude one. when in Vermont...) and felt my legs go instantly numb after jumping off a boulder into the icy mountain water. I've taken my bike out many times onto the slightly terrifying route 100 and am working on my sand/pothole-avoidance techniques. The farmers' market has been open for several weeks now and is hopping, even if half of it is crafts and the other is bread and cheese. These are all sure-fire signs of summer and I will take them in. Here is a slew of pictures to give you an idea of what this all looks like. Feast your eyes!
It amazing what the weather can do. We can fit ourselves with every amenity in the world but if it's too hot or too cold no one is quite satisfied. To move on the 31st of December to a place known for its winter can really give a person a skewed perception. I've felt fairly unsatiated by Vermont for the past few months. However, though it has taken many moons to get here, I am pretty happy with the Green Mountain State right now. I am busy, I am learning, and I am loving every minute of it. The past month has been full of changes as well as some constants. I have two jobs right now. One is serving at a restaurant two nights a week which is fine. The other is gardening for a landscape architecture firm which keeps me in shape and has chased away my all-too-fair skin. They do beautiful work and I help to keep it beautiful while trying not to soak in too much local gossip along the way. Made a little side trip to Shelburne Farms and then took a ferry across Lake Champlain to Essex, New York.
